Responsibilities

Description:
This position will provide HVAC and Utility systems subject matter expertise to all North American AstraZeneca sites. Act as recognized troubleshooter of complex HVAC and Utility systems. Manage HVAC and Utility system projects when time permits.

Major Responsibilities:
· Provide guidance, consultation, oversight, development and review of HVAC and Utility systems, standards, etc.
· Develop and maintain general knowledge of the critical HVAC and Utility systems at each site
· Act as companies’ recognized expert/trouble shooter of complex HVAC and Utility system related problems. Provide crisis support/trouble shooting.
· Provide support and direction for various HVAC and Utility projects, as needed
· Manage capital projects relating to HVAC and Utility infrastructure, control and automation, etc.
· Develop relationships and collaborate with site Facilities and Engineering teams
· Develop relationships and collaborate with global engineering counterpart
· Develop or assist in the development of strategic plans for mechanical systems at each site, as appropriate
· Coordinate and support Facility Improvement initiatives that define equipment data, equipment capabilities, utilization, efficiencies and obsolescence
· Authors and or reviews documents including Standard Operating Procedures, change control, design drawings, specifications, and other forms
· Provides input and may develop user requirements for the procurement of new HVAC and Utility assets
· Provide project management services when time permits
· Assist in the development of project justification and engineering proposals including providing input for capital planning process
· May participate in FAT’s for complex mechanical systems and equipment
· May identify and recommend technical training requirements for Operations/Engineering/Maintenance for new and existing equipment
· Assist in evaluations and recommendations related to the life cycle management of HVAC and Utility assets
· Participate in infrastructure review process
· Maintain external technical relationships and collaborates with equipment and material suppliers

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
· Minimum of 10 to 12 years of HVAC experience
· Knowledge and experience with high purity water systems (WFI, DI, RO), compressed air and nitrogen systems
· Knowledgeable in plumbing design
· Knowledge of differential pressure relationships in Laboratory and Pharmaceutical production environments.
· Knowledge of clean room design in sterile manufacturing environments
· Knowledge of fume hood and bio-safety cabinet design and application
· Knowledge of State, Federal and Local building codes
· Ability to lead engineering projects, coordinate contractors
· Knowledge of cGMP’s
· Knowledge of air and water balancing
· Knowledge of CFD (computational fluid dynamics)
· Experience with wind wake analysis’
· Knowledgeable of NEC, NFPA, OSHA and ASHRAE standards
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
· Knowledge of a variety of test equipment and test methods employed to balance, test and troubleshoot HVAC and Utility systems and equipment
· Ability to generate and interpret technical documents
· Demonstrated experience managing capital projects
· Experience managing plant shutdown activities
· Financial acumen. Ability to estimate, manage/ control project specific costs.

Preferred Background:
· Masters in Mechanical Engineering
· Experience with plant design and project engineering
· Knowledgeable of Building Automation Systems (BAS)
· Energy Conservation
· Sustainable Design related to mechanical system design
· Professional Engineering License
· Project Management Certification
· Experience managing external technical relationships
· Proven experience leading a team of technical personnel
· Proven ability to work with all levels within the organization – locally and globally
· Energy Star certification
